Soon, that statement may become almost meaningless.

The valuable data of the AI era may include:

engineering history, customer discussions, service records, test results, drawings, photographs, failures, quotations, market feedback and supplier knowledge.

Individually, these may look like ordinary business documents.

Connected together, they can become a company's private intelligence layer.

This may be far more difficult for a competitor to reproduce than simply subscribing to the same AI model.

Relationships Are Also Difficult to Copy

AI can find a company name.

It cannot instantly recreate twenty years of trust with that customer.

AI can generate a sales email.

It cannot automatically recreate the credibility built after solving repeated engineering problems.

AI can identify suppliers.

It does not automatically know which supplier will answer the telephone when a project is in trouble.

This means human networks may become more valuable rather than less valuable.

AI makes it easier to find information.

Trust remains scarce.

The Physical World Creates Another Barrier

There is also a major difference between generating an answer and executing that answer.

An AI model can design a concept for a cooling system.

Someone still has to manufacture it.

Someone has to assemble the hose.

Someone has to test the manifold.

Someone has to install the equipment.

Someone has to service the ship.

Someone has to construct the data center.

Someone has to generate the electricity.

This is why the Physical AI era may strengthen the value of industrial companies that can connect intelligence to real-world execution.

The Business Moat May Change

In the traditional digital economy, companies often tried to build a moat around software.

In the AI economy, part of that moat may move elsewhere.

The combination may matter more than any single element.

A company with excellent AI but no unique information may have little differentiation.

A company with decades of unique information but no ability to use AI may fail to extract its value.

There is an interesting assumption that AI primarily benefits young technology companies.

That may be only partly correct.

A thirty-year-old industrial company may possess something a new AI startup cannot easily create:

thirty years of reality.

Thousands of customer conversations.

Thousands of quotations and purchasing decisions.

AI may suddenly make all of that accumulated experience searchable, comparable and reusable.

What previously looked like old company history could become training material for a new corporate intelligence system.
